Drove up a mountain, came face to face with Frankenstein

The title pretty much sums up our latest weekend adventure. Although I really wasn't expecting half the beer related goodies we found along the way..

The location? Tamborine Mountain Qld. A short drive (up some pretty steep roads) from Beers in my backyard HQ and a bit of a day out for the family. The last time we were here was for the Tamborine show but we missed out on checking out the main drag so this adventure involved finding a park and just rambling from shop to shop. This place reminds me a lot of a cross between Daylesford Victoria and Sandford out of the movie Hot Fuzz in terms of popularity and serenity.
Only nobody will try and shoot me if I forget to put my rubbish in the bin.

It's also the location of the Fortitude Brewery and I finally got to meet one of the cars that inspired their amazing car labelled brews.

But in between the shops selling 52 varieties of fudge, the tea shop and the horribly addictive chocolate shop with the toy meerkats we found an amazing...cuckoo clock shop. I kid you not. On advice from a good friend of ours we ventured in and found a tonne of fun stuff.
Obviously the clocks were a given:

Including the twin turbo Rolls Royce of Grandfather Clocks - look at this classy monster!

Beer o clock every hour.
But what I really enjoyed, the great wall of steins and horns!

So many ways to drink a brew or two, so little time! What about a horn? Or perhaps a boot?

Wifey was mightily impressed!

The pick of the bunch? The piece de resistance? Well it has to be this monster doesn't it? 5 litre capable stein of the gods taking pride of the place smack bang on the top shelf. It turns boys into deities and deities into blubbering drunken messes:

Yes that's not a misprint, that's a $600 Stein that you would mourn for decades if you dropped and smashed it mid brew. But what a monster! (It'd go well with a $12000 grandfather clock). I could only imagine how heavy it would be filled up to try and raise to your mouth.

Yet another goodie to add to the list if my lottery numbers ever come up. Of course we might have to buy a ticket first and all that...
