Chang Beer - International pizza party

You know the expression 'brought a sword to a gun fight?' Well on fathers day this year I did the equivalent - I brought a Taiwanese beer to a make your own pizza celebration. How would the mish mashing of flavours and cultures go though?

Was it even a Thai style range of pizza toppings then?: Ahh no. It contained plenty of cheese, salami, shredded ham, capsicum, chorizo, baby spinach and tomato paste. Not a single typical Thai flavor among any of it.

Was the pizza still good though?: Absolutely. Originally we wanted to make our own bases but ran out of time. So even with a couple of pre made bases, it came out just fine.

Right then, enough of the pizza chat. Tell us about the beer!: Right o. But it was a great pizza...

What do I smell here?: Er...just beer. Not a powerful 'wow someone's been drinking a tonne of beer in this beer hall' type of beer smell, just a light whiff of 'okay that smells like a beer.' No magical nose notes, no instant flashbacks to that time when I was 16 at Carl's place and almost threw up all over the dog, just beer.

What do I taste here?: The distinctive taste of very basic beer mixed with very basic water. Nothing jumped off the page (or out of the beer) here. It was a touch sweet but no memorable aftertaste.

Initial thoughts: Turn your back on the head and it'll run off into the sunset before you can whip around in surprise. Colours not bad. Would do a very good job in calming down your mouth fire if you accidentally drank a tanker full of Tom Yum soup or a barrel of chilli oil.

Overall: A pale lager that would work well if you were eating something very spicy and needed to douse the flames but otherwise...
(Was not that great a mix with the home made pizza..)

2 out of 5 fathers day presents
